- Notifying the New Jersey Department of Education in writing within 30 days of starting to homeschool
- Providing the department with the name, age, and grade level of each child being homeschooled
- Ensuring that the child receives instruction in the subjects required by New Jersey law, which include reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science
- Keeping records of the child's progress, including attendance records and samples of the child's work
- Administering an annual standardized achievement test or alternative assessment to the child, or having the child's progress evaluated by a qualified third party
